Words of wisdom from House MD – Season 6

      He walks in as confident as a man with a cane could walk into a room. And it doesn’t take long to figure out that no matter where he is, and who he is with, he is the smartest man in that room. His name  is Gregory House.

  Did you ever come across someone so intelligent and well spoken that you had to carefully mind everything you say to them, not because you want to impress them, but the exact opposite: you don’t want them to think you are stupid. And in all fairness, you probably aren’t, but you start comparing yourself to this person and you get intimidated and you start stressing yourself over the fact that you can’t name all the bones in the human body or because you simply don’t know anything about politics.

    You would think this experience would be less unpleasing and embarrassing if, let’s say, this person is only a character in a book or an actor in a movie. Because then you could find excuses why you aren’t so smart, witty, literal or logical.

    But for me it’s quite the same, as I simply forget sometimes that behind their mind blowing lines there are probably dozens of writers, producers and researchers.

   A character that had this affect on me was Doctor House, the star of the popular drama with his name (yes, he is that important).  Besides dealing with a lot of personal issues, flaws of character and a complete lack of self control, House is portrayed to be one of the most intelligent doctors of TV , not only when it comes to medicine, but also when it comes to reading people and their behaviour. And you must admit that is a little bit intimidating. (yes, yes, I know he’s just a character)

   And while I found his so called “realistic” view on life way too pessimistic  and a tad dramatic, there is no denying his quick wit, his unapologetically sarcasm and the sad truth behind some of his lines.

Some of them are so good, that they even make awesome clothes!

        

   So, in honour of his great performance on season 6, here are the best quotes from House M.D. :

Success only last until someone screws them up. Failures are forever.

Things change. Doesn’t mean they get better.

We are all pathetic. That’s what makes everything interesting.

I have to agree with this one. Pathetic is a strong word. But we are all human. We have needs and hopes and silly dreams. We hurt. And we get hurt. We get disappointed. And disappoint others. We get stuck. And we break free. Because we are real. And that is interesting.

 I want to deal with my problems some place where I can get a decent cappuccino.

 I started to connect with one guy but then my propensity for screwing things up overtook me. And then my desire to have fun overcame my propensity.

I went crazy, not stupid.

Typical House humour. Maybe we should learn from him. As my niece said, we all need to be a little more crazy. At least this year.

Started thinking about what you said; about me obsessing; started obsessing about obsessing.

Me, me, me. And you would be lying if you said you never found yourself in this situation. Leave it to House to be so unique, and yet so relatable.

You’re a woman. You can do anything!

Even when said in a sarcastic tone, his words still manage to be inspirational. So girls, if you only remember one quote from this post, let this be the one!

People don’t get what they deserve. They just get what they get. There`s nothing any of us can do about it.

Only half true. Yes, sometimes life happens to you. And bad things happen to good people all the time and vice versa.  But life is more about how you react to what is happening to you. Because that you can control.

We all want the same things: love, forgiveness, chocolate.

Not a House quote. But an important one nevertheless.

We all need secrets. As long as they don’t kill us they keep us safe and warm.

I’m not stressed… beyond the stress induced by you telling me how stressed I am.

And last but not least a line said to House by Cuddy:  I love you. I wish I didn’t. But I can’t help it.

Because, despite his many flaws, he was loved. And maybe after all we don’t need someone who can completely understands us, but someone who wants to.

 And so, I hope to leave you on a positive note.

And know that House would’ve found so many other reasons to mock you, even if you could name all the bones in the human body. It’s just who he is. (Yes, yes, he isn’t real. But Hugh Laurie is, and he is quite remarkable as well).
